The Difference

Kathe Barge

Kathe is an Associate Broker with Piatt Sotheby’s International Realty. A realtor since 1999, she began her career at Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, where she was named Rookie of the Year her first year in the business. Originally from Connecticut and a graduate of Fairfield University and Duke University School of Law, she moved to Pittsburgh after practicing law with Covington & Burling in Washington D.C.

In real estate throughout Pittsburgh, Kathe applies the same strong work ethic, analytical and negotiating skills, and excellent communication skills on behalf of her clients. She stays ahead of the curve by staying on top of market trends, guiding her clients toward wise choices at every turn in our ever-changing. A natural connector, in addition to attending to every detail of a transaction, Kathe goes above and beyond to help her Buyers find just the right home, and her Sellers to realize the best price and terms in today’s dynamic market.  Kathe’s integrity, discretion and attention to detail have built a substantial client-base largely through referrals.

Kathe’s dedication to superior customer service and exceptional results make her an ideal partner when buying or selling a home. She brings a diverse set of skills to residential real estate — Kathe is a savvy negotiator, a proactive problem solver, and a strong advocate for her clients. Kathe prides herself on seamlessly guiding her clients through home purchases and sales that both meet their various (and sometimes ever-changing!) needs and represent a sound financial investment.

Kathe lives in the Village of Sewickley with her husband and two dogs – her three adult children have successfully launched from the nest! She is actively involved in her community through numerous volunteer activities.

Fun Facts

  • I spent the first two decades of my life in Connecticut – the Yankee in me comes out in my love of the pursuit of a great deal!
  • I have worn many hats: my first love was accounting (I passed my CPA exam before deciding law was the avenue for me), and I am also a licensed attorney, a licensed Real Estate Broker and a certified yoga instructor!
  • I have a collection of beautiful sarees that I wore to my eldest son’s wedding at the Rajbari Bawali outside Kolkata, and developed a love of Indian food while there!
  • I am a lake girl – I grew up spending summers on Tyler Lake and love everything lake – I used to be accomplished on waterskis (with only one ski – my kids don’t believe me but I have photographic proof!), and love sailing, kayaking, canoeing – really anything on a lake! I have taken that love to Lake Chautauqua over the past two decades.
  • I adore old homes and have a passion for bringing out the beauty in them – I have never “flipped” a home, but have personally supervised the renovation of seven historic homes for myself and members of my family – over the years I have developed enough knowledge and contacts that I can now successfully GC my own projects when needed.
  • I have loved every stage of parenting, but have to say that having three adult children is my favorite stage of all. We love our family adventures together, most recently in India for the wedding of our oldest son.  I’m always up for something off the beaten path – whether its ice-skating through a forest outside Quebec, sliding down a snow-filled lava tube in Iceland or heading out on a tiger safari in India!
  • Our two dogs (one a bossy rescue from Queens) keep us busy even though our nest is empty most of the time.
  • Favorite spectator sport? College basketball!  Go Blue Devils!
  • Yoga is a favorite way to relax and rejuvenate for me – that and a good book and a cup of tea.
